AI advisory and quote review

Advice priced as a fixed number of days, stated before we start, with a written output you can share. Useful whoever ends up building.
§1Three shapes of advice

Each one ends in a document you can act on

01

A second opinion on a quote

You have a quote from an agency for an app or an AI feature. We rerun its scope through the published model, line by line, and send back where the hours agree, where they differ, and the questions worth asking before you sign.

You receiveA written comparison, by category, with the model inputs attached so you can check our reading.

02

Build or buy for an AI feature

Many AI features can be bought as a product, configured from a platform, or built. We price all three for your case, including a year of running costs, and say which we would choose and why.

You receiveA short decision paper with the three costs side by side and the assumptions behind each.

03

A readiness review before you spend

For a team about to commission AI work: which processes are good candidates, what data each needs, what it would cost to try one, and what to measure to know whether it worked.

You receiveA ranked shortlist with a costed first project and its evaluation plan.

§2Pricing logic

Days, stated up front

Advisory work has no build hours to model, so we price it differently: a stated number of days for a stated output, agreed in writing. If the work takes fewer days than quoted, the difference is credited, the same rule we apply to fixed-price build phases. If it needs more, we tell you before spending them and you decide.

A quote review is the one place the model does the heavy lifting. We put the agency's scope into appdevelopmentcostcalculator.com, compare its hours with the agency's, and explain the gaps. You can run the same inputs yourself before you talk to us, which is the point of publishing it.

Questions people ask us

What does an AI consultant charge in the UK?

Published guides disagree widely. IT Jobs Watch, which counts advertised contract rates, reports a UK median of £575 a day for AI Consultant roles in the 6 months to 3 Oct 2026, from 70 quoted rates. The guide pages we read quote bands running from £400 to more than £3,000 a day, without saying where they come from. Our research essay sets the sources side by side.

Will you tell us not to build something?

Yes, when the numbers say so. A review that finds the feature would cost more to run than the work it replaces says that plainly, with the figures. Advisory work is priced on its own days, so its conclusion does not depend on a build following it.

Can we use your review to negotiate with our agency?

That is a common use of it. The comparison is written to be shared: it shows the model inputs and the reasoning, so your agency can answer it point by point. Our engagements are non-exclusive, and we are comfortable reviewing work another firm will build.
